Missing Photos – Transferring Photos from iPhone to Windows

If you have an iPhone and you’re trying to transfer your photos, videos and other data to another device via USB or another means, you might find that a single file or more has not transferred successfully. Check out the following troubleshooting methods to resolve this issue.

Check Your “Recently Deleted” Folder

  1. Open your “Photos” app.
  2. Tap “Albums” at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll down until you find the “Recently Deleted Album”.
  4. Tap the photo or video and select “Recover” then, “Confirm”.

To recover multiple photos:

  1. Tap “Select” in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
  2. Select all the files you wish to restore.
  3. Confirm that you want to recover the files.

Sign In with the Same Apple ID on All Your Devices

If any of your photos were saved to one of your devices that doesn’t have the same Apple ID as your other devices do, then this will cause files not to sync across devices.

You can check which Apple ID is associated to the device by opening the Settings App. If you don’t see an Apple ID displayed at the top of the screen, scroll down and select “iCloud”. You’ll be able to see which email is connected.

Unhide Your Photos

If you choose to hide any of your images then you will only be able to view these photos under the Hidden Album.

To Unhide Photos on an iPhone:

  1. Go to your Photos App and select the “Albums” tab.
  2. Under Other Albums tap “Hidden”.
  3. Select the file you want to reveal and tap the blue box with an arrow point up at the top.
  4. Then select “Unhide”.

Make Sure iCloud Photos is Turned On

Your photos and videos are stored on iCloud Photos so that you can access them across all your devices. iCloud is a great option for backing up your data in the cloud. If you took a photo on your iPhone but don’t see it on your other devices, check your settings.

Open the “Settings App”. If you don’t see an Apple ID displayed at the top of the screen, scroll down and select “iCloud”, then your account. From there, select “Photos”, then switch to “On”.

*Keep in mind*
If you organize a photo or video into an album and then delete it from Photos, it will delete everywhere, including your album as this syncs your files across all your devices.

The Photos Have Already Been Transferred to the Device in the Past

After you turn on iCloud Photos on all of your devices, any new photos and videos you add to your library will automatically download to your PC. However, if you’ve already transferred any of the files and you try and transfer, it will not transfer again in order to prevent duplicates. You can check this by looking at the title of the image and doing a search in your folders.
