Desktop Background is Black Even After Changing the Background/Wallpaper with Windows OS

Navigate to: %USERPROFILE%AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsThemes

Delete all file contents in the “themes” folder. Apply desired wallpaper again and should be fixed.

For Basic Users

If you have a black desktop screen and you’re trying to change your background on the desktop but the settings don’t seem to save or change your background image, you can get around this by following these instructions.

  1. 1. Start by copying the following: %USERPROFILE%AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsThemes
  2. Open your start menu by hitting the Windows Key on your keyboard, or you can also click the windows button located in the bottom left-hand corner. Then paste the text that you copied in step 1.
    Still need help? Right click anywhere in the search bar located at the bottom, this should give you the option to paste.
  3. You should receive a File Explorer window pop up with files inside it. If you do have any contents in this folder, go ahead and delete all of it*.

    *Tip: You can do this all at once with your keyboard by selecting “Ctrl+A” then hit “Delete”.

Test if this fixed the issue by changing your background image again.
