How to Delete a Facebook Account on PC or Mobile Device

IMPORTANT: Deactivating will only temporarily close the account until you decide to turn it back on by logging into your Facebook account again. If you have no plans of using your Facebook anymore you can delete the account altogether.

Before you delete your account, you’ll be given the option to download any of your Facebook data that you don’t want to lose. Such as posts, messages, photos etc.

* Deleting your account is permanent*

When you delete your Facebook account, you won’t be able to retrieve the content of the information you’ve shared on Facebook. Your Messenger and all of your messages will also be deleted.

Deleting a Facebook Account on a PC

  1. To get started, open a browser window and navigate to Facebook.com.
  2. Log in using the email and password to the account you want to deactivate (if not already logged in).
  3. Locate and click the down facing arrow in the top right-hand corner near your notifications.
  4. Select ‘Settings’.
  5. Among the different sections on the left-hand side of the screen, select the ‘Your Facebook Information’ section.
  6. At the bottom of your screen next to ‘Deactivation and Deletion’ select the ‘view’ link.
  7. You’ll then be asked if you want to Delete or Deactivate the account. Select the ‘Permanently Delete’ option, then select ‘Continue to Account Deactivation’.
  8. On the next page you’ll be warned that this will also delete your Messenger. They will provide the option to Deactivate the account instead of deleting so that you don’t lose Facebook Messenger.
  9. The next option will be asking if you want to download your Facebook info such as posts, pictures etc. If you select this option, you will be taken to a page where you check the box next to anything you want to download.
  10. After you finished selecting your choices, click ‘Delete Account’

You’ll receive the following warning: “You’re about to permanently delete your account. If you’re ready to delete, enter your password and click Delete Account. Once you submit your account for deletion, you have 30 days to reactivate your account and cancel the deletion. After 30 days, the deletion process will begin and you won’t be able to retrieve any of the content or information you have added.”

Deactivate Facebook Account on iPhone or iPad

  1. To get started, locate and open the Facebook App on your iOS device.
  2. Log in using the email and password to the account you want to deactivate.
  3. Locate the ‘More’ button with the 3 horizontal lines. This will be in the bottom right corner of your screen.
  4. Scroll down and select ‘Settings and Privacy’.
  5. Then tap ‘Account Settings’.
  6. Scroll down and tap ‘Account Ownership and Control’.
  7. Then tap ‘Deactivation and Deletion’.
  8. You’ll then be asked if you want to Delete or Deactivate the account. Select the ‘Permanently Delete’ option, then select ‘Continue to Account Deactivation’.
  9. On the next page you’ll be warned that this will also delete your Messenger. They will provide the option to Deactivate the account instead of deleting so that you don’t lose Facebook Messenger.
  10. The next option on this page will be asking if you want to download your Facebook info such as posts, pictures etc. If you select this option, you will be taken to a page where you check the box next to anything you want to download.
  11. After you’re done downloading your Facebook data, select ‘Delete Account’ and you’re finished.

You may receive a warning saying “You’ll receive the following warning “You’re about to permanently delete your account. If you’re ready to delete, enter your password and click Delete Account. Once you submit your account for deletion, you have 30 days to reactivate your account and cancel the deletion. After 30 days, the deletion process will begin and you won’t be able to retrieve any of the content or information you have added.”

Enter the password to your Facebook account and the account will be deleted.

Deactivate Facebook Account on Android device (smartphone or tablet)

  1. To get started, locate and open the Facebook App.
  2. Log in using the email and password to the account you want to deactivate.
  3. Locate the ‘More’ button with the 3 horizontal lines. This will be located in the top right corner of your screen.
  4. Scroll down and select ‘Settings and Privacy’.
  5. Then select ‘Settings’ from the drop down menu.
  6. Scroll down to the ‘Your Facebook Information’ section and tap ‘Account Ownership and Control.’
  7. Then tap ‘Deactivation and Deletion’.
  8. You’ll then be asked if you want to Delete or Deactivate the account. Select the ‘Permanently Delete’ option, then select ‘Continue to Account Deactivation’.
  9. On the next page you’ll be warned that this will also delete your Messenger. They will provide the option to Deactivate the account instead of deleting so that you don’t lose Facebook Messenger.
  10. The next option on this page will be asking if you want to download your Facebook info such as posts, pictures etc. If you select this option, you will be taken to a page where you check the box next to anything you want to download.
